    Soldier Boxes

    Eighth Grade Service Learning Project

On Tuesday, December 05, 2017 the student leaders running our annual Soldier Boxes campaign took a trip to the Hines VA Fisher House.  The students delivered 10 boxes of household items that were collected in our school and a check for $100.  The money was raised through a competitive game called Penny Wars.  Student in grades 6 through 8 generously donated their spare change.  Teachers could not resist the fun and gave generously.  After their visit and tour, the field trip continued on to Ronald McDonald House where we were provided with a tour of the property.  Our school community provided many toys and books for our students to donate to the toy closet at Ronald McDonald House.

    Superintendent's Message

    Fall 2017

What I have learned in my first months at River Grove School is that we like to stay busy! We had many family and community events such as a jam packed Pizza Battle, an outdoor Movie Night, McTeacher’s Night and a Halloween Parade through the community, to name a few.

Our students have been active and involved in boys and girls softball, boys soccer and girls volleyball. Our band marched in the Chicago Columbus Day Parade. And we have fundraised to support Hurricane victims in Texas and Puerto Rico and are beginning to collect for a local Animal Shelter and the Ronald McDonald Foundation. I can’t be prouder of how our students, families and staff care about the River Grove Community and people in need.

Thanks to a commitment to keep our school well maintained, the Board of Education’s building and grounds plan is completed. The parking lots are very helpful and, if you can say this about parking lots, truly beautiful with new fencing, lights and landscaping. We should all be proud of the property around the school and the inside of the building. Everything looks clean and appealing, so let’s all work together to keep our school in top shape!

It started a little late, but Fall is here, which brings beautiful color changes and cooler temperatures. Please be sure to dress appropriately for the weather. Everyone benefits from fresh air, exercise and a brain break so we value some outdoor time and want to make sure our students are prepared.

Thank you for following our new drop off and pick up procedures. The plan continues to be a work in progress and rain and snow will impact our procedures. We are learning and adjusting as we go. Our ultimate goal is safe travels to and from school for every one of our students. Please continue to drive and walk slowly in the area and allow for student safety to take precedence.

It was great to see many families at Parent Teacher Conferences. I look forward to seeing you again at winter and holiday events.

    All my best,

    Dr. Rashid
