Notes About PARCC Tests
Finally some spring-like weather!
You may have seen tv stories or read articles about the Chicago Public School system fighting with the State of Illinois over administering the PARCC assessment. Simply put, PARCC replaces ISAT. It is a mandated test. School districts that do not give the test do not get state aide.
Some reporters have ignorantly advocated that parents can “Opt-out”. This is not an option. What it is, simply put, is a biased translation about an exception that testing sites are mandated to report if there is a problem during testing. The indicator is actually “Refused to Test” meaning the student has special needs that caused him/her to refuse to comply and therefore was un-testable. It does not describe a voluntary choice. It describes an action by the student that is related to their special educational diagnosis. read on to learn more
