Classroom and Discipline Guidelines
2011-2012
Grading:
Grades will be based on the following criteria:
1. Skill Acquisition 35%
2. Written Tests and Completion of Assignments 35%
3. Effort/Participation* 15%
4. Attitude/Sportsmanship** 15%
*Effort/Participation will be graded as follows
5 points-Dressing for class
3 points-Warm-up and stretch
3 points-Use of equipment in proper fashion
**Attitude/ Sportsmanship will be graded as follows
3 points -Follows game rules
3 points -Follows teachers directions
3points -Positive behavior towards other students and activities (i.e. shaking
hands after game)
Dressing for Class:
You must have the following uniform for each class:
* T-shirt, shorts and or sweat pants purchased through the school. Names must be
put on all pieces of clothing using permanent marker (First initial and last name
is preferred. No nick names may be used).
* Gym shoes- Regular athletic type shoe, laces must be tied to the top of the shoe
and Velcro fastened in the appropriate places (this is a safety issue).
* Uniforms MUST be kept in your gym locker, not your homeroom locker.
* Uniforms MUST be taken home to wash once a week
* You will not be allowed to wear street clothes over or under your uniform.
Unprepared & Tardy Policy
Dressing for class is a requirement!! If you are not appropriately dressed for class, you will be considered unprepared. At the beginning and end of each class you are given five minutes to change into and out of your uniform. At the end of five minutes, if you are not changed and ready to begin or leave class, you will be considered tardy. You will receive two “free” unprepared and tardy marks for every trimester (12 weeks). After your two "free" tardy's the school handbook rules will apply. If you do not have your uniform, documentation of the unprepared will be taken and you will lose 5 participation points and the following will apply after your two free
3rd parental contact will be made
4th quiet lunch will be assigned and parent contact
5th detention 30 minutes
After the 5th unprepared, the length of the detentions will increase in time
Showers
You are permitted to take a shower after your physical education class, however; you are not required to take a shower. The school will not supply towels, but you may bring a towel from home to use. Towels should be taken home once a week for washing.
Lockers and Locks
Individual lockers will be assigned to you the first week of school. You will be given a lock that you are responsible for. It must be turned in at the end of the year. Failure to do so will result in a $ 6.00 lock replacement fee. DO NOT…. Share your locker, lock combination with anyone else and do not change your locker once they are
assigned.
Safety Rules- All rules in your student handbook apply in Physical Education Class.
Locker Room Rules
- Respect other student and the facilities
- No slapping or misuse of clothing or water
- Do not change lockers without permission of your instructor
- Hair spray or perfume are allowed only if used appropriately
Instructor reserves the right to remove this privilege
- No glass containers of any kind are allowed
- Keep voices down…no yelling or screaming
Gym Area and State Rules
- Follow directions pertaining to individual units
- No running across the gym, stage, or hallway upon entering or exiting the gym area.
- Do not use of touch any equipment or engage in any activity without the permission of your teacher
- Respect your peers and instructors
- If you find yourself in a situation you are feeling angry or frustrated, identify the problem and focus on it
- Remember, YOU are accountable for your own actions
Consequences for rule breaking
1st Offense Verbal Warning
2nd Offense Parental Contact Made
3rd Offense Quiet Lunch and Parent Contact
4th Offense Administrative Referral
If at any point/time a student is not showing proper behavior he/she will be asked to sit out and perform an alternate activity, finally any severe discipline situations will be sent immediately to the administration.
As per the student handbook, a parent’s note can be used to release a student for up to three days. After that a doctor’s note will be required for a student to be exempt from P.E. class.
