RGS Teachers Demonstrate Best Practices

by Jon Bartelt

Two teachers from River Grove School have been asked to present seminars for their peers at two separate conferences within the next month.  On March 1st, Ms. Ashley Peel, third grade teacher, will be presenting a Web 2.0 workshop for elementary educators at the 2012 Illinois Computing Educators Conference.  The workshop will provide Web tools that will engage learners, differentiate instruction, and empower students to take control of their own learning.  Ms. Peel recently received her Master's Degree in Technology from National Louis University, and looks forward to having this opportunity to share her love of technology in the classroom with other educators.

Another teacher, Ms. Mary Chamberlain, Reading Specialist, will be presenting at the Illinois Reading Council annual conference in Springfield also in March. She will present Seuss Jeopardy to give teachers additional resources for Read Across America Day and for doing an author study.  Ms. Chamberlain especially wants a target audience of middle grade teachers because there are not as many resources at this level on Dr. Seuss.  In addition, many middle school teachers tend to think of this author as just a writer for young children, however, some of his works are multi-level or even targeted for older readers.

Congratulations to both of these wonderful teachers in making a difference in the field of education as representatives of River Grove School!
