District Welcome

  • Fall 2020

    Dear River Grove School Community,

I hope you are all safe and healthy!

On August 20, 2020 RGS started back to school with full remote learning. At that time, the COVID-19 positivity rates were high and increasing.

River Grove School District believes in continuous improvement and so based on staff, student and parent feedback, on September 14, a new Remote Learning Plan and schedule went into effect. The new schedule allows for less screen time and more flexibility, while maintaining high expectations for meeting the academic and social emotional needs of our students.

Putting our focus on creating and refining strong and engaging remote learning will serve us well, as remote learning will probably be a part of our students’ educational experience for the 2020-2021 school year.

Now, given positivity rates that are generally decreasing, it is time to add on site learning to our school options. We are planning to use a Hybrid Model and Phase In process beginning in early October.

    What might this look like?

    • Families have a choice, so some students will be on site part time and some will still learn remotely full time.
    • We will use a Hybrid A/B schedule. This would mean, for example, Team A will be on site for 4 hours on Monday and Tuesday and Team B will be on site for 4 hours on Thursday and Friday. Our Self-Contained Special Education students and kindergarten may have a slightly different model. Families will be communicated with.
    • The schedule will mimic our current schedule with all students learning remotely in the afternoon.
    • Wednesday will be a remote learning day for all students to sanitize the school.
    • We will “phase in” students, meaning we will start with a couple grade levels, then add a couple more, then add a couple more, so that we can make adjustments to our safety protocols as needed.
    • All plans are contingent on the RGS community staying healthy.

We do not have all the details worked out yet, but I wanted our community to know of the plans for our next steps. We will be communicating very soon with specific information and notifying families of their proposed schedules.

I want to thank our Board of Education, staff, students and families for their input and support as we navigate this unusual and challenging school year. And thank you to our parents for completing the Commitment Form so we were able to make an accurate plan.

We are looking forward to seeing some of our students back in our classrooms soon!

    Be well Royals! #WeAreRG!!

    Dr. Jan Rashid
