In cases of bad weather and other local emergencies, it may be necessary to close the school. All school closings for any reason will be announced as River Grove School District 85 ½. School closing information will be available on the district website (www.rivergroveschool.org) and on the following radio and television stations:

A reverse directory system will deliver an automated recording of the school closing to the phone number provided by the household. Please ensure the District has the most current phone number in order to receive automated calls from the District.
For your child’s safety, make certain your child knows ahead of time where to go in case of an early dismissal. If we dismiss early for an emergency, all after-school functions are automatically cancelled.

Each day, River Grove School will assess the current weather conditions prior to our lunch and recess schedule. We will follow the procedures outlined below:

“Real” Feel (with windchill) is:

20 degrees or higher - Recess will be Outside
19 degrees or lower - Recess will be Inside
Snow/Rain/Hail - Recess will be Inside

In the event school will be closed due to weather-related conditions, River Grove School will take the necessary steps to inform all of our families. School closure information will be shared with local news stations, posted on our website and a Blackboard Mass Notification message will be sent to the provided home phone number.

Please be sure your child is dressed appropriately while traveling to and from school as well as for participation in outdoor recess.
