Problem Solving Meetings

Data is reviewed on all students who attend River Grove School to determine the need for any additional interventions needed to help facilitate success. Students who receive academic interventions are monitored with additional assessments and probes to determine the need for any change in intervention. The Problem Solving Team meets to review student data and interventions so that progress can be monitored and students are appropriately supported within the school. Parents are informed of interventions and student progress through conferences and Problem Solving Meetings. The Problem Solving Team includes Parents, Intervention Providers, Classroom Teachers, and Specialists who can help support students.

Domain Meeting

Meetings are held to review any area that the team needs more information for students, in order to better support an individual student’s needs. Areas that are reviewed as part of a domain include academic, cognitive, functional, communication, health, vision, hearing, motor skills, and social-emotional functioning. Parent consent is needed to complete any evaluation.  The evaluation results will be utilized to determine eligibility for special education services and to assist with educational planning for your child.  Once consent is signed, the school has 60 school days to complete any evaluation. In the case of a re-evaluation, the team must complete the evaluations prior to the three-year re-evaluation date.

Eligibility Meetings

This meeting is held within 60 school days after a parent signs consent for an evaluation to be completed.  These meetings are called Initial Eligibility Meetings or Re-evaluations depending on whether your child is currently eligible for services. At the eligibility meeting, any evaluation that has been completed along with your child’s current data and classroom performance is reviewed.  Eligibility for special education services is determined at this meeting. Students can be eligible under the following categories:  Autism, Deaf-Blindness, Deafness, Developmental Delay, Emotional Disturbance, Hearing Impairment, Intellectual Disability, Multiple Disabilities, Orthopedic Impairment, Other Health Impairment, Specific Learning Disability, Speech/Language Impairment, Traumatic Brain Injury, and Visual Impairment. If a student is determined eligible; an IEP (Individual Education Plan) is developed. Parent consent is needed to provide initial special education services. Eligibility for services is reviewed every three years.

Annual IEP  Meeting

A meeting is held each year to review a students IEP and develop a  plan that addresses needs related to the identified disability.  Parents are notified ten days prior to a meeting through a notice.  The notice will include team members who will be In attendance at the meeting.

Transition Meetings

Students who are 13 ½ years old or older are invited to attend their IEP meeting to develop a transition plan. Transition plans are used to help a student is planning and meeting his post-high school goals. The plan is based on a student’s needs, strengths, skills, and interests. Goals are incorporated into a student’s plan. These meetings typically take place in conjunction with high school planning meetings.

The Student Services Department is also responsible for student conduct and discipline, PBIS, student attendance and transportation.
